Deyo says: John Baxter, son of Heman Baxter…was born in 1835. He went to sea eight years, and at the age of twenty-one he began to learn the jewelers’ trade, and has been engaged in it since that time. Since 1879 he has kept a jewelry store at West Dennis. He is a member both of the Masonic and Odd Fellow orders. He was married in 1850 to Mary E., daughter of William Douglas, and has one son, John E. John Baxter was born 13 August 1835 in West Dennis, and died there of Nephritis 25 Oct 1920. He was married, first, 23 Oct 1859, to Mary E. Douglas of Manville, RI (b. there 9 Nov 1833; d/o William Douglas; d. West Dennis, of a tumor, 30 Jan 1899). John m(2), West Dennis, 24 Apr 1904, Hetty8 Maria (Baker) Manchester (b. West Dennis, 11 Dec 1838; d/o Eleazer Baker & Rebecca 7 M. Howes; widow of Benjamin B. Manchester of Providence; she d. West Dennis, of liver cancer, 31 Dec 1919).
