dc.provenance | HENRY HOMER SEARS – ESTATE ALBUM 1 – This collection of photos is from the Henry Homer Sears Estate The album is 9 x 11_ inches and is of the late 1800's. In such albums, the people on facing pages are often related, as are multiple photos on the same page. Each page was numbered, as were the photos for that page. Pages 2-4 have to photos, page 11 has no photo, page 13 has no photo, pages 14A and 14B have no photos. The cover is tooled leather and embossed with a gold stamp on the front cover that says: "Clara." A typed paper in the front reads as follows: "This album apparently belonged originally to Clara Whitten Sears, who was my grand-mother; and later belonged to Aunt Lydia (Mrs. Charles Nason) who in turn kept it until her death - when it was sent to my father, Louis Clifton Sears. My mother was Mary Karin Sears, born Dec. 27, 1875 in Buffalo; she died Sept. 6, 1946. My father was Louis Clifton Sears, born Jan. 26, 1873 in Boston; he died May 19, 1940. I am Mary Sears Rhodes, daughter of the above-mentioned Mr. and Mrs. Louis Clifton Sears; I was born Sept. 14, 1902 in Fort Worth, Texas. I wonder if you know I have a Carnegie Hero Fund Commission medal, having once saved a girl from drowning; and that the commission paid all my college expenses for the four years I was at Tufts College. I graduated June 16, 1924." The back cover is missing, the binding is destroyed and pages are falling out. Some pages have one photo per page, others four per page and in a few cases some photos were tucked into a page (noted within the descriptions of each). The album has 48 pages (24 leaves). Please note: one photo fell out of the book as it was being handled, and the page number is unknown. Most of the photos are not labeled. Thus, file codes are the briefest of descriptions of the subject matter. Listed also is the location where the photo was taken, if known. | en_US |
