dc.relation.ispartofBARRY HOMER COLLECTION - JOB CHASE PAPERS – DOCUMENTS: A large quantity of original papers related to Job Chase of West Harwich was obtained by Mr. Barry Homer of South Yarmouth. Mr. Homer had organized these roughly by date, and placed them in archival sleeves in a loose-leaf binder. He loaned the binder to DHS for digitizing of the documents. Upon receipt, the documents were scanned in the same order that they appeared in the notebook, and given a document number in sequence of their scanning. Most of the documents bear a date of some sort, however a few are undated. Captain Job5 Chase (1736-1833) in Yarmouth (Dennis), MA, son to William Chase and Dorcas Baker. He was married in 1760 to Edith "Ede"/"Ada" Bassett, of Chatham, (daughter of Richard Bassett) for his first wife. In 1774 Captain Job5 Chase married Hope Sears (daughter of Paul Sears and Anna Atkins) for his second wife. In 1817 he married Hannah Dimmick/Dimock as his third wife. He settled upon the spot where the widow of Alfred Chase now lives that being the house he last occupied. He was a man of energy, and left at his death considerable estate. He lived to the great age of 98, in the full possession of his mental faculties and to a good degree his physical faculties. However, most of these papers deal with his son, Job6 Chase Jr. (1776-1865) who was a large landowner, and a very prosperous merchant. A number of the letters are from his sons, and some from his brothers. The reader will notice that many of the ships in which he had a whole or part interest have the name “Hope” as part of the name, which was the name of his Job Jr.’s mother and eldest daughter.en_US
