Derick A huge number of postcards and other items were delivered to Burt Derick in a plastic shopping bag this date from Edmond Rhodes Nickerson. The bag contained not only postcards, but photos, negatives, and a letter. The materials were first sorted by type – postcards, photos, negatives, documents. The postcards were then sorted by type – greeting cards or picture postcards. The picture postcards were then sorted by country and US State. The US States were sorted by location within the state. For Massachusetts, they were sorted as Cape Cod or not, and by town. All of the Cape Cod cards were then sorted by village within the town, the approximate vintage, oldest first. The Dennis cards were selected first, then the other towns. All the cards were numbered with a pencil, and an inventory taken of all the cards, listing pertinent information such as title, and publisher. It is the Cape Cod cards which will be digitized and the other cards ignored. Following digitizing the Cape Cod cards will be placed in archival sleeves in a notebook. In the inventory list which follows, the following abbreviations are noted for the card manufacturers/publishers: EDW = E. D. West Co., South Yarmouth. MA MET = Metropolitan News Co., Boston ROT = The Rotograph Co., New York City ECK = E. C. Kropp Co., Milwaukee, Wisconsin HAD = H. A. Dickerman & Son, Taunton, MA AZO = AZO photo card FH = Franz Huld Co., New York City CG = Crusers-Gardner Cal. Co., Montrose, PA CWC = Charles W. Cartwright, Chatham EI = Eastern Illustrating Co., Belfast, ME JEB = J. Elmer Baxter, West Dennis PL = Plastichrome Co. YCC = Yankee Color Corp. NBN = New Bedford News Co. CS = Craig Studio TB = Tichnor Bros., Boston AT = The Albertype Co., Brooklyn, NY SPC = Souvenir Post Card Co., New York MCG = McGrew Color Graphics, Kansas City, MO JL = J. Lazarus, Hyannis HR = Hannau-Robinson Color Productions, New York DP = Dexter Press, West Nyack, NY SNC = Service News Co., New Bedford NEN = New England News Co., Boston CCP = Cape Cod Post Card Co. BRS = Bresnahan Studio, Cincinnati, Ohio HLM = H. L. Moore Co., South Yarmouth JL = J. Lazarus, Hyannis Based on the addresses and notes, it appears that most of the cards were from the Ralph C. Nickerson residence on Church St., West Dennis. Others were from the Alpheus Baker collection of items on Upper County Road, South Dennis.en_US
