Photo of a landscape with the caption: “Taken in late 20’s, one of last scallop shanty when canal was being widened. To the right I just out of sight is now the Gov. pier & Mass Maritime Academy. Ajacent was Sidney Beels home where Leston Nickerson lived 1909. By the large rocks was a mound of scallop shells higher than the shanty itself. Leston attended a one room school house, about where Catholic Church now stands - 4th grade teacher Mrs. Phinney who lived in Monument Beach. Trestle bridge, train & foot traffic. Snap taken by Capt. Hight, working dredging canal - duck hunting in cove in rear, coots tough. Copied from original, Polly Kennedy - June 1986.”
